The Greensboro Arm Wrestling League is proud to announce that the third beneficiary of our inaugural season will be the YWCA Greensboro’s Family Shelter.
The Family Shelter, located on East Wendover Avenue, provides a place to live, meals, case management and support for families who are homeless. Every family who enters the program works with the YWCA to develop a plan to achieve educational goals, health, financial stability, pay debts and save money in an effort to move into permanent housing.
The YWCA staff and community volunteers help the families by cooking hot dinners, playing with children, assisting with homework and other services. It costs about $635 per day to operate, and its open 365 days per year.
Last year, the Family Shelter housed 125 people, including 79 children. The program helped 18 families find housing. Twenty-one families helped last year saw an increase in their income.
All money raised through ticket sales to GRAWL Brawl III and GRAWLbux sales will go to the shelter, to help it meet these critical needs for our community.
