Meet the Beneficiary: Interactive Resource Center

Interative Resource Center day room.

The Greensboro Arm Wrestling League (GRAWL) will open its fifth season with GRAWL Brawl XIII: GRAWL Stars, at 7 p.m., Feb. 29, at Gibb’s Hundred, 504 State St., Greensboro. In honor of GRAWL’s anniversary, this event will benefit the Interactive Resource Center (IRC), the first nonprofit to partner with the all-volunteer fundraising group at its first event. Tickets are on sale later this month.

For this special occasion, GRAWL is bringing back an all-star cast of beloved veteran wrestlers, including three arm wrestling champions and other crowd favorites. Veterans Dark Slayer, Beverly CrusHER, UrSLAMya the Sea Bitch, Alexandra Slamilton, Alona Forever and Cry Babe will be joined by first-time wrestlers Sera Tonin and Jordan Michael, wrestling on behalf of the IRC.

The IRC is on a mission to end homelessness. It is Guilford County’s only day resource center for people currently facing, experiencing or coming out of homelessness. They provide everything from fundamental services (showers, laundry, or a mailing address for example) to medical and mental health care, case management and employment services. They meet their guests where they are, gather the resources they need to gain shelter and help them create a new path forward.

All funds raised through admission and GRAWLbux sales at the event will go toward an IRC fund that assists with special needs of guests which would not be covered by grant dollars. They might include providing transportation or uniforms to help a guest start a new job, or pay for an emergency repair to a car.

Admission is $7 online in advance, or $10 at the door. Audience members are encouraged to donate more money throughout the event by contributing to their favorite wrestlers. Doors open at 7 pm. Arm wrestling begins at 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door. This is an all-ages event.
